Back to News Listing Guns of August Is Updated

Posted: Thursday, March 26, 2009 by Sean Drummy

Type: Press Release

New rule changes, AI improvements, and plenty of fixes loaded into the howitzer and ready to fire!

Matrix Games and Adanac Command Studies are pleased to release a new comprehensive v1.32 update for their WWI strategy game, Guns of August. The update includes many bug fixes and over 30 enhancements or new features including AI fixes and improvements and a major change to the rules for transferring supplies and materials between countries. Under the new transfer system, moving supplies over land and sea have different requirements. Seaborne transfer requires a port or allied port and sea transports in order to complete. Consequently, countries can no longer transfer supplies to Britain without abiding by these rules.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “Guns of August does an impressive job of capturing the unique strategic and operational circumstances found in the First World War.  It’s design brings across the planning and pace of combined operations that were part of warfare in that era.  A great deal of additional work has been put into this game by Adanac since the last official update and we believe all Guns of August owners will be very happy with the results.”

Guns of August puts players in command of waging World War I at a grand strategic scale from Paris to Baghdad. The entire Western, Eastern, Italian and Balkan fronts are included as are the three fronts of the Ottoman Empire. Production, combat, diplomacy, research, trenches, fog of war, and not to mention land, sea and air combat are all included! Use land units like infantry corps complete with separate artillery units for precisely directing barrages on the enemy's line.

As time goes on, players must deal with changing combat situations like the introduction of Stossstruppen and even mighty tanks charging through lines to break through the stalemate! Guns of August fully supports a robust AI to fight against or play by email. Step back to the early 20th Century and hear the guns of August!

Get the update here. The update is comprehensive and will bring any previous version of Guns of August to version 1.32.
